September/October 2017

School started with Kayla in third grade and Colin in first grade.  They both have lots of good friends in their class and are enjoying their teachers.  I just still can't get over how big they're getting!

Colin's buddies!

After learning how to raise monarchs this summer, we helped catch and tag monarchs with Ms. Karen on their way to Mexico.

We went on a fun field trip at the Van Loon Wildlife Area.  We took a train ride through floodplain forests and stopped every so often to get out and check places out.

It was a warm but overcast day.  One of my falconers was there with her education birds that the kids were really interested in.

Stopped at an old bridge and looked at the river.

Afterwards, we checked out a great spot for timber rattlesnakes and found some!  The kids were troopers hiking up the hill, avoiding the poison ivy, and swatting the mosquitoes, and they both agreed in the end it was well worth it.

We camped at Merrick State Park and after the rain the first night, had an enjoyable next day fishing and playing at the playground.

More butterflies on their way to Mexico!

Auntie Dana (and Mom, Tom, and Lee!) came to visit Kayla's poms and Colin's football practice!

We then went on to Kelly and Brian's wedding in Milwaukee!  Lots of fun family time.  Somehow Grandma and Tom never made it into our phone cameras, but they were there!

Our friends rented the local skating rink for a birthday party.  It was amusing watching the adults re-learn how to skate or blade.  Jordan broke his 20 year old skates!  Kayla and Colin were quick learners and they're even learning in gym class now how to skate.

I mentioned earlier that Kayla was in poms and Colin in flag football.  Here are their highlights.  They definitely love these two sports!  Jordan was the flag football coach with the high school kids.

It was a windy last day!
