New Mexico/Texas 2020/2021

The thought came to us a few weeks before Christmas to go camping somewhere south and WARM over the holidays.  We debated about where to go and finally settled on Carlsbad, NM!  Jordan and I were hoping to leave before Christmas but the kids were insistent on being home for Christmas, so we left first thing on the 26th and made it to our spot for the week the evening of the 27th.

First stop was Guadalupe Mountains National Park - lots of beautiful mountain formations here along with an old homestead.  Took a nice hike to a spring and enjoyed the warmer weather in the 50s.

Next stop was White Sands National Park which is surrounded by a missle test base!  It was another beautiful day spent sledding down the sand.  The sleds needed some wax (we forgot to get  some!) to go fast so Colin spent most of his time tumbling down.  Ash loved to run around and roll in the sand.

It's so bright!

We drove through the mountains on the way home and drove through a snowstorm with the temperature dropping down to 29 degrees.  Little did we know that we would be waking up to this!

We spent the morning reading and playing games in the camper while we waiting for the weather to warm up a bit.

In the afternoon, we drove out to Sitting Bull Falls.  The snow made the drive and waterfall SO pretty!  These pictures don't do the scenery justice.

Next national park on the list...Carlsbad Caverns!  Unfortunately the bats were down south and we didn't get to see the swarm so we'll have to make sure to come back.  3+ hours in the caverns, they were beautiful!

Had to stop in White City to say hi to the aliens.

On our last day, we went for a drive into the mountains again to go exploring.  Had another snowball fight in the snow!
