Summer Update

Here's Kayla waiting for the dentist.  She takes after her daddy and is cavity free!  She has been waiting and waiting for a tooth to get loose and fall out, but no luck yet.  Just be patient Kayla Bug, I love your smile!

Colin is not one to pass up the opportunity of sitting in a fire truck!

Class of 2027, what????  When did this happen?!  Needless to say, I was a little teary-eyed that day.

Veterinarian Kayla!  I'm not going to be surprised if her career ends up being helping people or animals in some fashion or another.

Colin and Daddy

Colin looks so big with his short hair!

Last summer also saw the end to in-home daycare with Colin and a switch to the daycare that Kayla goes to.

One of the biggest changes we saw this summer was moving! Our house on the river is currently being rented out for two years until the renters purchase.  Until that happens, we moved into an apartment on the other side of town which works well for me as my commute is about 5 minutes shorter.  Hey, I'll take all the minutes I can!  We let the kids take one last bath in the whirlpool tub.

And here they are in front of the apartment building!  We're on the second floor with an upstairs loft.

Daddy took the kids to several car shows over the summer.  They are surprisingly into seeing all the cars, probably because they get giant ice cream bars!

Collection day at Kayla's daycare.  She was very proud of her collections!

State fair!  Kayla loved that slide again and Colin's favorite was the train.

At the booth Mommy worked at, Colin and Daddy took an awesome photo fighting a fire!

We also went to the county fair, since the kids can't get enough of those fair rides.  We cheered on some pigs and ducks although ours didn't win.

Colin was a little unsure about the ferris wheel, but Kayla loved it.  He made up for it at the demolition derby.  I have never seen him so into anything before.  He'd yell at the cars to hit each other and 'go cars GO!'

Hey, those trains look familiar...

Kayla took dance and swim lessons.  Dance was just ok but she still loves those swim lessons.  Colin took swim lessons too although you'd never know it.  He went in once, then refused the rest of the summer.  Maybe this year.

In the new apt, we bought bunk beds for the kids and let me tell how well those worked out...  Kayla slept in the top bunk only a couple nights before she decided it was too scary.  So she moved to the bottom bunk with Colin since he also thought the top bunk was scary.  Then we got a futon for the loft which Kayla thought was the coolest thing, so she moved her bed up to the futon.  That would well for a few weeks until Colin got lonely.  Now they both sleep on the futon upstairs.  And more often than not, we wake up in the morning to find they have both come downstairs to sleep in their 'little beds' next to our bed.  I swear it's musical beds at this house, you just never know where they're going to start and end!  Or you find them in crazy sleeping positions, like this:

For awhile, Colin had this routine of bringing as many cars to bed as possible, then lining them all up just right.  I always felt bad having to move his work so he wouldn't roll over them.

I only post this photo because I think Kayla looks to be 15, not 5.  Not cool!

First day of 3k for Colin!  He did so well with the switch and hardly had any issues until Kayla went back to school.  It took him awhile to not cry when she left in the morning.  Also, if you ask Colin, this shirt is a 'recycling bin' shirt, not Green Lantern.

And first day of kindergarten for Kayla!  She came home and said the best part of kindergarten is that they get 3 recesses!

Playing with Smudge.  Lately, Kayla has been trying to pick him up.  Lucky for her, he is a very tolerant kitty!

Mmm...raspberries!

Goofball Kayla Bug!
