I have two free hands and I'm awake! That combination doesn't happen too often, so since I have literally, a few minutes before our dr. appt., I thought I would update on Baby Colin.
For starters, tomorrow he is going to be two weeks old. I remember it going by fast last time, and it sure went fast again this time. The morning of the 25th, we dropped Kayla off at daycare. Both of us held on tight to our Kayla Bug knowing that our family was going to change next time we saw her. Once we got to the hospital at 7:30, it took about an hour to get me hooked up to all the machines and ready to go. My doctor came in and noticed I was having itty bitty contractions, so Jordan and I both hope that Colin was already planning on coming out that day. We then started the pitocin and the doctor broke my water. An hour later, the contractions were getting pretty painful, and since I didn't want to walk around leaking water everywhere, I received an epidural to help with the pain. Just before noon, I was ready to go and three pushes later, Colin Robert entered the world!
Kayla absolutely loved meeting Colin. She was so excited and very gentle. She is still excited about having a baby brother although we have to remind her about being gentle when she's near him. I'll post more on Kayla when we get new pictures.
When Colin is awake, his favorite things to do are look at people, the fan, lights, ceiling, etc. His next favorite thing to do is sleep. He loves sleeping so much that, just like Kayla, we are having a hard time nursing. My lactation nurse and I decided today that it would be better for both him and me if I pumped and bottlefed so that's what we're going to do. I'm encouraged that feedlings will no longer last an hour and hopefully I can catch up on some sleep. Kayla is excited about feeding him bottles.
The one thing that does wake him up when he's sleeping are diaper changes! He is definitely not a fan, and I thought it was hard enough changing a screaming baby, but a screaming BOY baby. I'll take a girl diaper any day of the week. : ) Colin was in such a deep sleep the other night that not even Jordan's raspberries on his feet could wake him up.
We think he squeals more than Kayla did, which is pretty cute. Oh, and his belly button cord fell off three days after being born, which seems pretty early, but Colin didn't seem to mind at all.
He is such a super sweet baby, and we couldn't ask for anything more. : )
