September 12, 2011

We just got back from a popup camping trip with Kayla and it reminded me that I haven't posted about our first popup camping trip with her this summer!  We dropped Colin off with Grandma and headed out to New Glarus Woods State Park.  Here's Kayla all set and ready to go!

It rained most of the way there, so we had to wait an hour before setting up the camper.  It stopped raining long enought for us to take Kayla to the park for a half hour then it poured again!  Needless to say, there was no campfire that night.  We instead went into town for some pizza.  We had fun hanging out in the popup though.  Kayla has her own corner with her books and puzzles.

The next morning was much nicer, and Jordan made us all pancakes for breakfast.  Then it was off to the playground again, and what we were hoping was going to be a quick loop trail, but we let Kayla lead the way and without good signs to guide us, we quickly got on the long path out to the prairie.  Nothing wrong with that, but it was a looong walk back.

Kayla didn't want to smile for the camera so she gave this look instead.  Notice the walnuts in her hands.

Smelling the flowers

Kayla Bug found a brown snake!

Kayla liked to walk through the grass on the side of the trail.

We finally decided to take a secret short cut through the prairie to save time on our now very long hike.  Kayla and her walnuts rode on Jordan's shoulders.

We finally made it to the campsite and cooked up some brats for lunch then packed up and went home.  And picked up Colin of course.  And in case you missed seeing Colin during this camping trip (I know I did!), here he is being quite unsure of what that thing is that Dada is holding.
